Batman: Dark Knight Makeup Department

Batman: Dark Knight Makeup Department
The scene:
The Dark makeup around his eyes suggests a sinister dark presents. The contrast of his white face makes his wrinkles and scars pop out and become accentuated. We feel he is psychotic in nature from has unnatural appearance. If his face was all white, we might feel more at ease, but the black emanating from his eyes and smearing outwards, makes us feel he is poisoned and corrupt from the inside out. He appears the very embodiment of Christendoms Lucifer. His hair has a green tint and is greasy like. Which furthers our belief that he is a scumbag and the greatest filth of Gotham.

Compose Your Frame

Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds is clear in this photo taken from my iphone 5s, when we went to eat some Thai food at Benja's Thai & Sushi.  My beautiful daughter flatters the photo as the stream is a natural vector which draws our eyes to the golden area of the composition. I feel I could have included more of the stream on the left portion of the photo, but it isn't to shabby for an amateur photograph.

Axioms of Web Design

IGN

In the bottom portion of the screen they have placed the words "GAME NEWSLETTER" to clearly illustrate, if you couldn't tell from the art, IGN is a game news website. We see a strong grid through out their site. They are very focused, and their site is easy to navigate. The lines dividing the stories suggests that you can scroll down and continue looking at more content. The site is easy to understand and clearly illustrates its purpose. The moment you come to the site, a large majority of people would know what the site is about without having to click elsewhere. We see the greatest contrast right from the start. During the loading process, the full white background has contrasting sections of the grid emerge in darker shades. Overall I feel their webpage is not complicated or busy. It looks good and that is because it is simple.

IGN reports on all the same stuff but uses original art created by themselves. The sight is navigated at the top left portion of the screen where the IGN is surrounded by a fill of red and you see the word browse in small letters.

They have converted the site to a variety of aspect ratios I show you the iphone 5's display of the same site.

Good and Poor Design Evaluation

Apple

Apple has always been about simplicity. Its white apple logo, with a small bit out of the side, has communicated to the consumer that they have a delicious, clean, crisp product that can improve daily life. Their two dimensional display shows contrast with the negative space being black and the positive space being white as the ipad is centered on the display screen. This creates similarity in a simple way. The white logo and the predominantly white display screen pop out and feel pure and clean. Both are in close proximity but the display gives continuity as the focus flows upward from the display to the apple logo. The display is easily seen as working well with and being grouped with the logo. This gives closure to the display and a sense of completeness.

Kindle

Kindle's display give a very busy informational approach to its display. It's lines and color scheme is nice. The orange shades complement the blue shades. However, as I gaze on I feel overwhelmed and annoyed. I feel they are trying to talk me into buying one of their tablets. I feel little or no thought was put into how the display will coincide with the product displays. One third of the display is covered by the product. I ask myself, "the Kindle Paperwhite is the best device for what? They do show contrast in their presentation of the tablet. It's lines and shapes have continuity, but I felt my eyes being drawn to the center where the writing is. I believe it more important for my eyes to be drawn to the product and not the writing in the center. The image gives me a sense of more chaos than order. I feel it may have been rushed. I feel no congnative or emotional response when I view this displays advertising for the Kindle Fire HDX and the Kindle Paperwhite.
